More info

The Hy-Gain 18AVQII is an omnidirectional antenna that operates on 10, 15, 20, 40, 80 meters.

The system will operate with grounding or with a radial resonant system if mounted above the ground. You can make your own radial system by following the manual, or use the Hy-Gain RRK-88 radial system kit available from your Hy-Gain dealer.

The antenna can be used both in voice and in CW . It can also be tuned in mid-band for use in voice or CW.

In both cases, the bandwidth and SWR of the antenna are quite wide so that the antenna operates at an SWR of 2: 1 or less on 10, 15, 20 40 and 80- meters.

What is provided with the 18AVQII
Stainless steel hardware and clamps for elements for all. Electrical and mechanical connections.

Operation theory
The use of heavy "Hy-Q Traps" provides automatic band selection. Hy-Q traps are parallel resonant circuits that isolate the various sections of the antenna and give the resonance of the fourth wavelength on all bands. The upper load coil is used For operation on the 80 meter band while the complex the antenna height remains below 20 feet (610 cm).

NOTE: If the input connector terminals are Checked with an ohmmeter, they will show a short direct . It's normal! The corresponding coil in the antenna base puts the entire system on the DC ground. However, it has a load impedance of 50 ohms .
Choice of a site
The 18AVQII can be mounted on the ground, on a roof or on a pole. The antenna must be protected using non-conductive ropes (Bayco). When choosing a Be sure to leave enough space for the installation of these tie rods.

Radial and earthing system
For the best performance, the 18AVQII should be grounded, free from buildings and other structures.

When the antenna is on the ground, sometimes the radial system is not necessary.

In most areas where ground surface conductivity is poor and ground level is not possible, grounding radials to improve antenna efficiency. When mounting the antenna more than three feet above the ground, it must be a radial resonant system used, such as the Hy-Gain Kit RRK-88 radial system .

If the antenna is mounted on the roof and the roof The space is too small for a radial system, it is possible to lower the radials above the edge of the roof to almost everyone without seriously changing the performance of the antenna.

The radial system must be insulated From the roof and connected to a good ground for lightning protection.

Important: this antenna must be supported.

Rope for UV non-conducting test bodies (not included) must be fixed between the tube clamps (item # 17) located below the 80 meters loading coil shown in Figure 2.

The ends of the tie rods should be sufficiently anchored to the ground with poles or other strong support.
