The Yaesu FC‑80 is an automatic antenna coupler specifically designed for the FTX‑1 Field Head, offering quick and reliable impedance matching on HF and 50 MHz up to 10 W.
Compact and modular, it's ideal for portable QRP operations.
Automatic Impedance Matching
The FC‑80 automatically adjusts the impedance between your transmitter and antenna to ensure efficient power transfer, minimizing losses caused by mismatch.
Tool-Free Installation and Compact Design
The coupler mounts directly to the rear of the FTX‑1 Field Head via integrated clips — no tools required, and setup is fast.
Compatible with SCF‑1 and SBR‑52LI via Spacer
The FC‑80 can be used together with the SCF‑1 cooling fan or the SBR‑52LI battery, which occupy the same rear mounting area.
A mechanical spacer is included to offset the rear accessory, allowing all components to be mounted simultaneously without interference.
In Optima mode, the Field Head connects to the SPA‑1 via a cable, and the antenna is connected directly to the rear of the SPA‑1.
In this setup, the FC‑80 remains physically mounted on the Field Head but is no longer part of the RF signal path.
Therefore, it is not exposed to the 100 W output from the SPA‑1, and there is no risk of overloading or damage.
Coverage: HF (1.8–30 MHz) + 50 MHz
Max Power Handling: 10 W (QRP only)
Tuning Time: Typically 5 to 8 seconds
Stored Tuning Memories: Yes
Mounting: Clips to the rear of Field Head
Included Accessories: Spacer for SCF‑1/SBR‑52LI compatibility
Delivers fast, reliable impedance matching for QRP use
Ideal for portable setups with the SBR‑52LI battery or external power
Mechanically compatible with SCF‑1 and SBR‑52LI via included spacer
Can remain attached to the Field Head during Optima use without risk, as it is not in the RF path
Both the FC‑80 and the SPA‑1’s internal ATU are calibrated for a 50 Ω nominal impedance, with the ability to correct a SWR of up to 3:1.
In Optima configuration, the FC‑80 is not in the RF chain — although still physically attached, it does not carry RF power, and there is no risk of damage.
Impedance matching in this case is handled exclusively by the internal ATU of the SPA‑1.
